Angels choose GM for the first time, notes on Freddie Freeman, Brad Hand – The Athletic

Arte Moreno is set to hire his fourth consecutive GM for the first time since owning the Angels in 2003. The team are expected to appoint their GM today, and sources told The Athletic that it would be the Braves’ deputy general manager, Perry Minasian.

But in addition to interviewing several former GMs, including Ruben Amaro Jr., Michael Hill, and Dan Jennings, the Angels have reached out to some of the game’s top current executives, to be fired. Indian President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti, Rays General Manager Erik Neander and Athletics General Manager David Forst were among the leaders Angels have shown interest in, major league sources say.

The lack of availability of some Angels candidates does not mean that these candidates will be banned from other clubs. The leaders sometimes invoke geographic or family reasons for not wanting to pursue certain openings. The owners sometimes deny permission to senior officials under contract to talk to others …
