Angels combine to keep sailors untouched

In their first home game since Skaggs' death on July 1, at the age of 27, the Angels paid tribute to Skaggs during a moving pre-game ceremony putting featuring his mother, Debbie, in the first perfect ceremonial throwing. This set the tone for an incredible effort by Cole, who opened the ball, and Pena, as the two combined to give only one step. Omar Narvaez was the only player to reach base for Seattle, scoring a goal four paces against Pena in fifth.

Pena finished ninth with 76 shots and pulled out Mac Williamson and Dee Gordon for the first two outs before Mallex Smith was abruptly defeated by second baseman Luis Rengifo for the final. The angel players rushed to the field after the match in an emotional moment to celebrate this incredible accomplishment.

After the draw, there was an incredibly moving moment with the Angels players meeting at the mound to drop off their No. 45 Skaggs jersey in honor of it. In the center of the hillock, they placed a Skaggs painting done by a fan.

It was the first Angels draw since Jered Weaver against the Twins in a 9-0 win on May 2, 2012 at Angel Stadium. It was previously the biggest margin of victory for the Angels. The club's last and unassisted combined was April 11, 1990, when Mark Langston and Mike Witt combined their efforts to defeat the Mariners in a 1-0 win at Angel Stadium. It was also the fourth time the Mariners were unsuccessful in their history, with the last time for Philip Humber's perfect match on April 21, 2012.
