Angie Jakusz, ‘Survivor: Palau’ contestant, dead at 40

Angie Jakusz, a candidate for Survivorthe tenth season has passed away On January 8, after losing a long battle with cancer, People reports. She was 40 years old.

Jakusz was only 25 when she was chosen Survivor: Palau in 2005. At the time, she was working as a bartender and artist in New Orleans, La.

When she first came to the game, she was targeted at the First Tribal Council after the Ulong Tribe lost the Immunity Challenge. After that, she impressed her tribe by doing well in challenges, breaking her tribe’s initial judgments about their colorful tattoos and daring piercings.

Despite his successful integration with his tribe, Ulong’s losing streak continued and Jakusz became the sixth person to vote out of the game.

“Her family told us three years ago that she was battling cancer”, Palau Coby Archa told People. “We raised money for his treatments. She was not in stardom, just the experience of Survivor. She came, she played and she returned to her life in New Orleans. She loved her life that way.

Jakusz is the second actor of Survivor: Palau to die. Jenn Lyon died in 2010 from her battle with breast cancer. Archa posted a tribute photo to Instagram (below) of his two lost comrades.

Jakusz is survived by her husband of nine years, Steven Calandra.
