We are waiting for a third Gremlins film for years, but it looks like the best thing on the horizon may be on the horizon: an animated series about cute creatures (kind until you feed them after dark, that you wet them or expose them to a bright light, … then all the bets are off).

Variety announced the series under development for WarnerMedia's next streaming service – not to be confused with WB's DC Universe streaming service – which has not yet been named or launched. Here is a description of what we might expect from Gremlins series:

The potential series would be a period piece that would follow Mr. Wing, the Chinese grandfather played by Keye Luke in the movies, as he continued his adventures with the friendly Mogwai Gizmo. The series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television and Amblin Television. Warner Bros. and Amblin both produced the films on which the show will be based.

Although we do not mention the original Gremlins director Joe Dante (he also led the inimitable Gremlins 2: the new batch), there is already a hidden talent behind the scenes: screenwriter and executive producer Tze Chun, whose credits include Gotham and Once upon a time.

The animation looks like the perfect kingdom for a Gremlins prequel – presumably, these "adventures" will include encounters with weird, adorable, and / or more terrifying magical creatures – and we will definitely keep our ears open for more details on this project.
