Anne Hathaway revealed she was the ninth pick to play her character in The devil wears Prada.

The actor played aspiring journalist Andy Sachs, who was cast into the die-hard fashion world, in the 2006 film.

Hathaway made the reveal during an appearance on yesterday’s (February 19) episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, on which she was a guest judge. Before the contestants performed in a musical theater challenge, the star shared some acting tips with them and answered their questions.

After being asked if there were any roles she had to fight for, Hathaway replied, “How much time do you have? Many of them.

“I’ll give you some tea, I was the ninth choice for the devil wears Prada, “she said.” But I got it! Hang on, never give up. “

Rachel McAdams was previously known to be the first choice for the role, but turned the studio down three times. However, it was not known until then how close Hathaway was to Andy’s list. We still don’t know who the other actors the studio wanted before her were.

A musical adaptation of The devil wears Prada – featuring music written by Elton John – was slated to premiere in Chicago on July 14, 2020, before moving to Broadway in New York City.

However, the coronavirus pandemic means the show has yet to debut. When it does, it will feature all new music by John, alongside lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub.

In an interview in 2018, Taub said of the pop icon: “He’s an amazing artist and so kind, so open and so collaborative, and it’s been a really powerful experience to work with a legend who is really an artist who loves to make music and loves to collaborate with new people. “
