Casio Wear OS

  • The first Casio Wear OS watch in the G-Shock range is the GSW-H1000.
  • The watch will carry the ruggedness expected of a G-Shock watch, including water resistance of 200m.
  • Sadly, Casio hasn’t revealed when you might get it.

Update, April 1, 2021 (2 p.m. ET): When we published this article, Casio had not disclosed pricing information for the new Wear OS G-Shock watch. We now know that the next laptop will cost $ 699 here in the US and £ 599 in the UK. Ouch.

However, we still don’t have a solid release date.

Original article, April 1, 2021 (10:49 a.m.): When it comes to nail-resistant watches, few brands live up to the reputation of Casio’s G-Shock line. Although Casio brought a lot of intelligence to these watches over the years, they never quite became traditional smartwatches.

This is changing now. Today, Casio announced that it will be launching a G-Shock watch with Google’s Wear operating system as its platform. This will marry the ruggedness of the G-Shock range – including water resistance of 20 bar (200m) – with the versatility of the Wear OS platform.

The first Casio Wear OS G-Shock watch will be officially known as the GSW-H1000. There will be three models of the watch: the GSW-H1000-1 with blue accents (seen in the image above), the GSW-H1000-1A with gray accents, and the GSW-H1000-1A4 with accents of red.

Unfortunately, Casio has not announced a release date or price for this new line of watches.

While Wear OS offers a robust app library and good integration with Android phones, it requires very high-end hardware to perform well and is pretty bad with battery life. At the moment, it is not known if and how the Casio Wear OS G-Shock watch will correct these shortcomings.
