Another "Game of Thrones" sequence could take off at HBO

Author George R.R. Martin is working on a project that is about 300 years before the events described in the series, according to Deadline.

HBO declined to comment on the report that the show would focus on events likely to lead to the downfall of House Targaryen, one of the leading ruling families featured in Martin's books and in the hugely popular series which ended in May.

Martin would have derived the program from his book "Fire & Blood" and developed the pilot with Ryan Condal, who notably contributed to the creation of the show "Colony" with the producer "Lost" Carlton Cuse.

HBO has already produced another related pilot project that takes place thousands of years before "Game of Thrones", with Naomi Watts. The network has yet to move to the next step: order a complete series based on this concept.

Additional spin-offs from the series were developed when HBO learned that "Thrones" was coming to an end, while the cable network – like CNN, a WarnerMedia unit – was trying to keep the connection with its most popular franchise.

Martin has periodically informed fans of possible additions to the mythology of "Game of Thrones" via his blog.
