Another prosecutor leaves Mueller's team

A high-ranking prosecutor, Robert Mueller, who handled Michael Flynn's guilty plea, left the special council office as more and more signs indicated that the investigation into Russia was coming to an end.

US Deputy Attorney Zainab Ahmad "has concluded his case" under Mueller "but will continue to represent the bureau for outstanding cases that have been entrusted to him," said spokesman Peter Carr.

Ahmad, an expert on criminal cases and international terrorists, is the third eminent member of the Mueller team whose plans have been confirmed in recent weeks to leave the team investigating Russia's meddling in elections of 2016.

Carr last Thursday confirmed Deputy Special Advisor Andrew Weissmann planned to end his details at Mueller's office "in the near future". And the FBI m said Earlier this month, David Archey, his senior special investigative officer on Mueller, had already introduced himself to a new position at the head of the Richmond, Virginia field office.

Neither Mueller nor his superiors of the Ministry of Justice have said anything official about the conclusion of the special council's investigation. With regard to Flynn – the first national security adviser to President Donald Trump, who was sacked for misleading officials on his contacts with the Russian ambassador – the Mueller office last week told a federal judge who may still be called to testify this summer in the government's lawsuit against his former trading partner, accused of failing to disclose Turkey's lobbying abroad. But in the same file, he also noted that Flynn's cooperation with the Mueller inquiry was "otherwise complete".

Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts but has not yet been sentenced.

Ahmad worked on the Flynn case with Brandon Van Grack, another specialist in the national security division who has moved back one step Last fall, he served as a full-time director at Mueller and was recently asked to lead a new Justice Department effort to enforce the Foreign Agent Registration Act. This World War II law was used to prosecute Manafort and Flynn, and ministry officials said the decision to focus on this case stemmed from events related to the 2016 presidential election.
