Another sign that Josh McDaniels is the Eagles favorite?

The Eagles wrapped up their lengthy interview with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on Sunday night and since then signs have been mounting that McDaniels is the favorite to secure the job.

Of course, the Eagles’ research has been thorough and it should be noted that they are interviewing another candidate on Tuesday, so this is not a done deal.

But it’s hard to ignore all the signs pointing to McDaniels.

Here is another one:

According to SI.com’s Albert Breer, “the Eagles are having a lot of experience” on McDaniels.

While the Eagles still do their homework on future coaching hires, the fact that they take a close look at McDaniels shows how serious they are. And they probably want to know a lot about McDaniels, which comes with an… interesting CV. The Eagles want to find out all they can about the 44-year-old, who is a long-time OC and former head coach.

And, by the way, our own John Clark says McDaniels is “a priority” for the Eagles even as interviews go on.

Here’s what Breer had to say about McDaniels as the Eagles continue to focus on him:

“That’s not to say he’s getting the job, but I believe Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman are intrigued by what McDaniels could do, and there’s an easy answer to a question they’re trying to confront: Which coach available is best equipped to build an offense that works for our quarterback (s)? I also believe this one can work because Roseman and McDaniels have different strengths.

“Where they should fill in the gaps would be in how the organization would organize itself structurally, since both guys have a very defined vision for that. But I think, in a way, the two guys here could be really good for each other, if everyone is reasonable. I also think Roseman’s experience, and the belief that his job is first and foremost to seek out players for coaches, born out of his experience with Andy Reid, would go a long way in merging training and scouting, if McDaniels is the guy. “

This is one of the main things the Eagles need to understand: Can McDaniels and Roseman work well together? Roseman obviously clashed with Chip Kelly and there were reports that Roseman and Doug Pederson saw each other less and less in agreement as Pederson’s tenure continued. The Eagles are always talking about making sure the front office, the coaching staff and the scouting department are on the same page, but it’s not easy to do. And they must determine if the visions and the personalities blend together.

Another side note from this IS report: Breer mentions that Colts secondary coach Jonathan Gannon could end up in Philly if McDaniels gets the job. But with the news that Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni is interviewing for the Eagles head coach job, that’s probably even more of a reason to keep an eye out for Gannon.
