Anthony Davis: Celtics potential future may not depend on Kyrie Irving | Bleacher's report

If the Boston Celtics acquire Anthony Davis in an exchange, they could keep him in the long run, regardless of Kyrie Irving's decision to do so outside of the season.

By David Aldridge of Athletic, Davis ""did not completely exclude" a new signature with the Celtics if an exchange were to take place, but the chances of that happening are "significantly lower "if Irving leaves as a free agent.

While this is not a good enough reason for the Celtics to be optimistic, this represents a significant change from Davis's situation three months ago.

Marc Stein of New York Times reported in February that Davis was "categorical "he would not sign a long-term extension to Boston.

Around the same time, Sports Illustrated & # 39;s Chris Mannix said that the Celtics "believed" that Davis wanted to play with Irving and that the team was "quietly confident "they were on the same page with Irving.

It was before Irving and the Celtics ignited their playoff series against Milwaukee Bucks. After winning the first game, Boston lost four straight times with an average of 16.3 points per game.

Irving, who can withdraw from his contract this summer, was in trouble throughout the playoffs. The six-time star shot a total of 38.5% in nine games against the Bucks and Indiana Pacers. He has fired 25 times out of 83 in the last four games against Milwaukee.

Trade talks around Davis are expected to resume early in the off season, but it is unclear for the moment whether an agreement will be needed. General Manager of the New Orleans Pelicans, David Griffin m said he thinks it's possible to convince the All-Star Center to stay with the organization.

The high expectations of the Celtics at the start of the 2018-19 season were quickly overtaken by inconsistent games and constant speculation about Irving's future. Adding Davis to the composition would help put the franchise back on track.
