Why finally, after the Lakers and Pelicans pulled the trigger Saturday night in a deal with Anthony Davis.

Los Angeles has sent an overabundance of young talent – Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks, including No. 4 pick in Thursday's NBA draft – in exchange for Davis, though the team's top picks are still in the mix. agreement does not become official until the New Year begins on July 6th.
This decision ended months of speculation as to where Davis would land before hitting an independent player next summer. Rich Paul, agent of Davis and James, said that last week, the Lakers (and Knicks) figured at the top of their list of destinations. James did not hesitate to dream of playing with Davis last season, which resulted in an NBA anti-sabotage memo throughout the league.
But the Lakers and New Orleans could not accept the terms of the contract after Davis asked for an exchange in February, and much has happened since then: Magic Johnson, who accused the Pelicans of running away the initial commercial speech, abruptly left his post as president of the Lakers. New Orleans dismissed general manager Dell Demps, then staggered the right to choose Zion Williamson with the first pick of the selection.
And the Lakers missed the playoffs for a sixth consecutive season, a series now having to be broken.
