Anthony Rizzo wasted no time winning the love of Yankees loyalists, winning each of his first two games with the Bronx Bombers after being sent there via a trade on July 29. Almost a week later, he’s still going. He has now played six games with the Yankees, scoring one point in each of six games.
No player has ever started their Yankees career with at least one RBI in each of their first six games to date. Rizzo is the first in the history of this legendary franchise, by STAT. Quite remarkable.
The RBI in Wednesday’s Yankees win was emphatic. The Yankees were actually no hitting against Orioles starter Matt Harvey in three innings. Rizzo greeted him with an in the fourth with this blow:
Call it the catalyst, because it started from there. The Yankees would get their second point later in the set and tie it in fifth. They opened things up with a seventh of five points and won 10-3.
The Yankees are now 5-1 since acquiring Rizzo. They are 58-49 overall and are two games away from the AL’s second wild card. They are also within striking distance, six games, in the AL East.
As for Rizzo himself, he’s on a blockbuster streak. In his last six games with the Cubs, he was 8 for 22 (0.364) with three homers and five RBIs. Now through six games for the Yankees, he’s 8 for 20 (0.400) with three homers and six RBIs. He also flexes his well-balanced batting muscles as he has a fly sack, has been hit with a pitch twice, and has walked four times against a single strikeout.
