Anthony Smith subdues Devin Clark, slams the skid

Anthony Smith got back on track with a definitive performance on Saturday and an arrival of Devin Clark in the UFC first round on the ESPN 18 main event.

Smith (34-16 MMA, 9-6 UFC) used his wrestling advantage in his favor and locked himself in a triangular choke which forced Clark (12-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) to give in to 2: 34 of the round. 1.

The light heavyweight bout was the main event for UFC on ESPN 18 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN2 / ESPN +.

Smith surprised Clark out of the cage by getting an out in the first 15 seconds of the fight. They fought for position on the mat, and the result was Clark providing superior control. However, Smith quickly stepped into a triangular choke and forced Clark to tap.

With the win, Smith snapped a two-fight losing skid. He later admitted how important it was to his career.

“It’s been a long road,” Smith said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “You think you’ve hit the title shot and things are going great and things are supposed to be great, but that’s life. I’m not going anywhere. Don’t sleep on me.
