Police in Phoenix, Arizona, arrested 16 people on Friday night during an event organized by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Authorities said a group of protesters had blocked a downtown street and disrupted streetcar traffic in front of the local ICE office. KSAZ reported that a small number of people had not cleared the track and the tramway tracks when requested, which led to the arrests.

A total of 14 people were charged with unlawful assembly and obstruction of a highway, while two were charged with aggravated assault against a police officer.
No injuries were reported and protesters dispersed around 23:00.
The Phoenix demonstration was one of many events preceding the planned immigration operations on Sunday. Earlier Friday, protesters at an ICE facility in Aurora, Colorado, defeated the American flag and raised the Mexican flag in its place.

On Saturday, several thousand protesters marched in downtown Chicago, many of them carrying placards with messages such as "No Kids in the Cages" and "Abolish ICE". Some songs also belted criticize Trump.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the demonstration was peaceful and that there had been no arrest. He says there were about 5,000 protesters at its peak.
