SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – An anti-vaccine activist has been quoted in the assault of a California deputy pushed on a sidewalk near the Capitol.

Kenneth Austin Bennett watched the confrontation on Facebook. The video shows Bennett interviewing Senator Richard Pan on the street about vaccines. Pan responds and continues to walk while smiling before being pushed into the back.

Note: The moment in question starts at around 9:53 in this video:

The Sacramento Police Department said it quoted Bennett under the charge of assault for the offense and then released him.

Pan, a Democrat from Sacramento, is the author of several bills limiting exemptions for child immunization. His efforts drew hundreds of anti-vaccine activists to the Capitol in protest.

Bennett tried unsuccessfully to call back Pan and filed documents for running against him last year but never appeared on the ballot.
