Antonio Banderas, 60, joins Harrison Ford, 79, in Indiana Jones 5

Antonio Banderas joins the star cast of Indiana Jones 5.

The news broke on Thursday, but without any clue as to who the 60-year-old Spanish actor will play, Variety reported.

Production on the highly anticipated project is currently underway in the UK, although star Harrison Ford, 79, is currently unable to film due to a shoulder injury he sustained on set.

Banderas was recently seen onscreen in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard alongside Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek.

He is best known for voicing Puss in Boots in the animated Shrek franchise and rose to prominence in Hollywood in the 1990s with roles in Philadelphia, Interview With The Vampire, and Mask of Zorro.

He is part of the filming of Indy 5 alongside the currently producing thriller The Enforcer and preparations for the limited series True Crime The Monster of Florence of which he is the executive production and in which he stars.

Indiana Jones 5 began filming at English Studios at Pinewood in June and recently filmed on location in the Scottish city of Glasgow, which doubles for 1960s Manhattan.

British actress and Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge was seen on set in Glasgow on Wednesday filming scenes with a Harrison Ford double.

The streets were dressed to look like New York in the days after the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, with yellow cabs, vintage automobiles and American flags.

British actor Toby Jones, Danish star Mads Mikkelsen, German actor Thomas Kretschmann and American actress Shaunette Renée Wilson are also part of the cast.

Directed by James Mangold, the film is currently set to hit theaters on July 29, 2022. British actress and Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge was seen on the Glasgow set filming scenes with a Harrison double on Wednesday Ford.
