Antonio Banderas Joins Latest ‘Indiana Jones’ Movie – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Antonio Banderas is Harrison Ford’s new co-star in the upcoming upcoming installment of the Indiana Jones franchise. Oscar-nominated Banderas has struck a deal to join the film alongside Ford, who returns as our favorite archaeologist, and a star-studded ensemble including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette RenĂ©e Wilson. For Banderas, the film marks another major franchise for the international star.

James Mangold takes over as Steven Spielberg, who is still a producer and very involved in various elements of the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, who has worked on all scores of the 40-year franchise, including its iconic theme, will also return as a songwriter. Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth and Mangold co-wrote the screenplay.

Production is currently underway, with the film scheduled to be bowed on July 29, 2022. Plot details are still vague on the new adventure that awaits Jones, as are the details behind who will play Banderas.

Banderas, who recently won his first Oscar nomination for his work in Pain and glory, has been busy lining up a handful of major properties and possible franchises starting with The bodyguard of the hitman’s wife. He also recently finished production on Sony Unexplored with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. He’s also returning to star in the DreamWorks Animation sequel. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
