NEWARK –

(AP) – A United flight arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport had to be taken out of service after ants came out of a carry-on in the cabin.

A passenger of the Venice-Newark flight on Monday described the scenario in a series of tweets and photos.

A spokesman for United said the plane had been set aside once in Newark so that it could be cleaned up and exterminated.

The spokesman said the airline had informed the customs and agriculture staff at the airport.
