A United flight arriving at the Newark Liberty International Airport had to be taken out of service after ants came out of a carry-on baggage in one part of the cabin.

A passenger from the Venice-Newark flight described the scenario on Monday in a series of tweets and photos.

A spokesman for United said the plane had been set aside once in Newark so that it could be cleaned up and exterminated.

The spokesman said the airline had informed the customs and agriculture staff at the airport.
