While still shrouded in mystery, David O. Russell’s upcoming film is shaping up to be a massive movie. As Deadline reports, the newcomers to the cast of the Oscar-nominated director’s latest film are Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Shannon, Chris Rock, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts and Alessandro Nivola. . For the New Regency-directed feature, they join previously announced cast members Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek and Zoe Saldana.

Still untitled and without plot details, David O. Russell’s first film since “Joy” in 2015 is based on its own original idea, with filming currently underway in California. New Regency’s Arnon Milchan is expected to produce with Matthew Budman and Anthony Katagas.

That’s quite a cast for Russell, whose many Oscar-nominated films are known for their great ensembles. Her “Silver Linings Playbook” won Jennifer Lawrence the Best Actress award at the Oscars. Meanwhile, Christian Bale won the award for Best Supporting Actor for “The Fighter”. Its ensembles tend to generate a myriad of nominations in the categories.

Rumors that Russell would court Myers, De Niro and Michael Shannon date back to 2020. Russell previously collaborated with De Niro on “Joy” and “Silver Linings Playbook”. The latter earned De Niro an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Russell’s new collaborator, Anya Taylor-Joy, just had a winning year with Netfix’s “The Queen’s Gambit”, one of last year’s most-watched shows. She’s next to star as Furiosa in George Miller’s prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road,” as Charlize Theron created in her 2015 film. She also recently reunited with her director’s Viking saga “The Witch ”“ The Northman, ”starring Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard, and will soon be seen in director Edgar Wright’s exciting thriller“ Last Night in Soho, ”which is currently slated to open on April 23.
