AOC and Omar silent after Black Lives Matter expressed support for Cuban regime

Democratic Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Cori Bush of Missouri have yet to weigh in on Black Lives Matter declaring support for the Communist regime in Cuba, even though women in Congress have been supporters of the BLM in the past.

Black Lives Matter sparked a backlash on Wednesday night after issuing a statement denouncing the US embargo and praising the Cuban government.

“The Cuban people are being punished by the US government because the country has maintained its commitment to sovereignty and self-determination,” the statement said. “America’s leaders have tried to crush this revolution for decades.”

The statement also credited the Cuban government with “protecting black revolutionaries like Assata Shakur,” a convicted cop killer who fled to Cuba after escaping from prison in 1979. BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors , has praised Shakur several times in the past.

Ocasio-Cortez and Omar are strong supporters of the BLM, while Bush was a BLM activist before joining Congress.

“In Minnesota, Black Lives Matter was on the ballot. George Floyd was on the ballot. Racial justice was on the ballot,” Omar wrote in a Tweeter after the November elections. “The result? A record turnout, a shift to Democrats and gains in the suburbs.”

Congressional offices for Omar, Ocasio-Cortez and Bush did not immediately respond to Fox News requests for comment.

The BLM is not the only group allied with AOC to have praised the oppressive Cuban regime. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which counts Ocasio-Cortez and Bush among its members, appeared to mark their support for the Cuban regime this week.

The international committee of the DSA on Monday declared its solidarity with the “Revolution” – a term used by the communist regime – “at this time of unrest”. The national branch of the DSA has also echoed The Cuban president blamed the US trade embargo with the Communist regime for the unrest.
