Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired at a Republican congresswoman from Colorado who urged the government to end supplementary unemployment benefits, saying Rep. Lauren Boebert was spouting “good old conservative values.”
“Tell them loud and proud girl!” The GOP will remove your unemployment protections and dismantle any semblance of a public safety net we have left! The New York Democrat said on Twitter Saturday night.
“Then make the workers pay a lot more for everything with low wages while Wall St gets a meal ticket!” Good old custodian values baby! She added.
Boebert, speaking at the conservative political action conference in Dallas, drew cheers when she lambasted the Biden administration’s coronavirus relief plan and its response to the pandemic.
“We’re here to tell the government that we don’t want your benefits, we don’t want your well-being. Don’t come knocking on my door with your Fauci ouchie, you’re leaving us alone, ”said Boebert, referring to Dr.Anthony Fauci, who is one of the White House’s top advisers on COVID-19.
Boebert also lambasted the administration’s restrictions on coronaviruses, which she strongly opposed.
“We live under a tyrannical regime that wants to keep us separate. Keep us isolated. Keep us locked up and muzzle our kids, ”Boebert said. “This is not the American dream and we are fighting to expose their agenda and ensure that we have these God given rights guaranteed to us not by corrupt politicians but by Almighty God.”
President Biden’s US bailout, passed by Congress in March, offers $ 300 in enhanced unemployment benefits every week through September.
But a number of Republican governors ended those benefits earlier because they say the extra funds keep unemployed Americans from taking jobs, leaving businesses struggling to find help.
Boebert singled out Ocasio-Cortez in his 2020 Republican primary against incumbent Rep Scott Tipton.
“I am absolutely against it,” said Boebert, adding “I am ready to be the one who defends conservative values and takes on AOC.”
Former President Donald Trump will address CPAC later Sunday afternoon.
