HARRISBURG, PA – Residents of Pennsylvania aged 65 or older and those with high-risk conditions are now eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine, state officials said on Tuesday.
As of Tuesday, the state expanded the number of people eligible for Phase 1A vaccination to include anyone over 65 and those aged 16 to 64 with serious medical conditions that put them at greater risk. of serious illness due to COVID-19.
These high-risk conditions include cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, Down syndrome, heart disease, sickle cell anemia, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. People who are immunocompromised, obese or pregnant are now eligible, as well as smokers. You can see the full list here.
If you are eligible to receive the vaccine, the state has an interactive map to help you find a vaccinator near you. You will then make an appointment with the service provider.
Currently available coronavirus vaccines consist of two doses. Health officials are reminding all residents to make sure they receive the second dose.
The next phase of the state’s immunization program will be 1B. These will include people living in communities not otherwise specified as long-term care facilities, first responders, correctional officers, U.S. Postal Service employees, grocery store employees, teachers and more.
