AP Top 25 poll: Alabama and Notre Dame place top two with rocky college football rankings

[ad_1]

There is a new No.1 atop the college football standings as Alabama took the lead in the new AP Top 25 poll after Clemson’s double overtime loss at Notre Dame.

The Crimson Tide was off by week 10, but had slowly taken Clemson’s advantage in the ballots, closing the gap in voting points and first-place votes over the past month. The Tigers fell to No.4 after the loss, and Alabama took a large chunk of those first-place votes to establish a firm hold on No.1. Notre Dame climbed back to No.2 after the win. epic, picking up just two first-place votes along the way, while Ohio State remained at No. 3 with a first-place vote after a routine Rutgers kickoff.

Florida fell from 8th to 6th place after beating Georgia in Jacksonville, Fla., But voters prevented the Gators’ rise from passing Texas A&M, which won the head-to-head meeting earlier. this year at College Station, Texas. Georgia fell seven places to No.12 after the loss, but perhaps even more disappointing is being away in search of the SEC championship race.

This week’s AP poll saw big wins for the Northwest and Indiana as well as the end of a run for Michigan. Since the start of the 2018 season, the Wolverines have been ranked in every Top 25 AP for which they have been eligible (not counting the weeks the Big Ten teams were retired). Following the loss to the Hoosiers, the Wolverines are unranked for the first time since November 2017.
