Apex Legends Developers Want To Remove Low Profile From Every Legend After Pathfinder Upgrades

The developers of Apex Legends have revealed their intention to remove Low Profile from each Legend affected by the Perk, after Pathfinder removed the passive in the Chaos Theory patch notes.

The developers of Apex Legends Respawn have, in the past, spoken about their hesitation over Low Profile and Fortified – Passive Perks introduced to try and balance hitbox effects of different sizes. In November, they even described them as a “curse” on the battle royale.

Caustic and Gibraltar, as larger and therefore easier to hit Legends, were given Fortified, meaning they see damage received reduced by 15%. The smaller Legends that are harder to hit – Lifeline, Pathfinder, Wattson, and Wraith – have been given a low profile, meaning incoming damage is increased by 5%.

However, during the Chaos Theory Collection event, Pathfinder removed Low Profile. The robotic scout buff surprised many, who quickly floated other Legends they want to see without Low Profile.

Respawn basically justified the changes by explaining that Pathfinder’s hitbox is too big to have the negative effects of Low Profile. “While Path is still mobile, its hitbox is great,” they said. “While its overall win rate and win rate are by no means low, it’s hard to justify keeping Low Profile on a hitbox of its size.”

Responding to the patch notes, one player asked Wattson to receive the same treatment, claiming that she was misplaced in the game’s Season 8 meta and that removing Low Profile would be a valid buff.

In response, Respawn’s lead game designer Daniel Klein said, “My goal is to remove it from all characters in the game, but we have to figure out how to nerf Lifeline before we can do that.”

Klein’s response suggests that Apex could potentially remove all of the Low Profile benefits.

Whether Apex actually reaches a point where all Low Profile perks are removed from the game remains to be seen, but it does bring some interesting dynamics to potential Buffs and Legends of Nerds might receive. Could we see medium-sized legends attributed to Fortified as a buff, for example?

Whatever happens in terms of legendary enthusiasts and nerfs, Respawn is clearly careful about keeping the game as balanced as possible. We anticipate that the next major update will take place at the start of Season 9.
