Apex Legends getting ready for a big launch of Battle Pass – TechCrunch

Apex Legends surprised the world of video games two months ago, bringing a new frenetic dynamic to the kind of Battle Royale games that has already attracted 50 million players.

This first big milestone was not expensive: EA would have paid Ninja $ 1 million to broadcast the game. But now, the question is whether or not Respawn can keep and convert their new voracious legion of players.

Fortunately for Respawn, Fortnite has led the way in monetizing this type of game, by offering the game itself for free and generating revenue from a virtual and virtual store. a Battle Pass. The Battle Pass concept allows users to subscribe to a higher level and win skins, camos and other cosmetic items.

Apex Legends, however, has a unique opportunity to make the Battle Pass even more attractive. For the moment, this opportunity is called Octane.

According to rumors, Octane would be the Battle Pass character of the game. We do not know anything yet for sure, but a datamine and some allegedly leaked photos have led people to believe that Octane had a stim-shot style ability him allowing to exchange speed of movement for his health, with another ability allowing him to recover this health of combat situations.

But his ultimate rumor is one that excites people, if the rumors prove true. Octane's ultimate ability is thought to be a launch pad, which would allow the entire team (and enemies, one might assume) to bounce back during a fight.

There is a curious twist. While waiting for the launch of the Battle Pass, Respawn placed a handful of the same launchers in the game around Marketplace on the map. They are static launch pads, but they work nevertheless.

This raises the question: Are launch zones simply a static addition to the map itself, or does Respawn test Octane's next ultimate ability? In both cases, Octane represents an interesting opportunity for Respawn and Apex Battle Pass.

Because Apex Legends is based on a hero system, where individual characters bring unique skills, weapons and equipment to the game, Apex can offer new hero characters as part of the Battle Pass. This differs from Fortnite's virtual product suite, which offers no benefit at stake and is cosmetic only.

A new character with abilities and abilities that can contribute to your success can create many of the FOMOs who are undecided about the Battle Pass. New content and, hopefully, more appealing weapon cams should spark a new wave of growth as the core user base is refreshed. But finding a balance between this urgency and the time needed to create rich content and a beautiful season is a challenge.

Respawn probably has work to do on the game already launched. The explosive growth of the game quickly caused serious server problems, and delays continued to irritate the best players.

That said, Respawn seems to be handling the pressure well, with some believing that the Battle Pass has already been delayed to ensure a neat start. For the moment, it's a waiting game.
