Apex Legends is a better shooter, but I prefer to hang out at Fortnite.

Even if I play Fortnite for a good part of the year, I am always surprised by butterflies. I am there, running along a giant crater or sneaking through a dense forest. A few blue and floating wings catch my eye. I do not stop exactly to watch – it's too dangerous in a royal battle where everyone wants to kill you – but it's enough to get my attention for a brief second, before I leave to explore other parts of the island.

There is nothing like these charming butterflies in Apex Legends. respawn Fall of the TitansThis shooter stormed the gates of the game when it was launched two weeks ago. He has collected 25 million players in seven days and regularly dominates the Twitch charts. Mountain peak It's not the first royal battle game to challenge Fortnitebut none of his contemporaries had that kind of momentum. Even with neon hair Fortnite The Ninja star plays the game Respawn and wins its first major tournament last week in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers.

This might lead you to believe that both games are in direct competition. And, at least for part of the competitive community, they are. But Mountain peak and Fortnite also offer very different experiences. And although I take advantage of the high octane action of Mountain peakThe Royal Battle of Respawn is missing my favorite aspect of Fortnite: The Epic game is a much more pleasant place to relax.

As a pure action game, Mountain peak is the superior experience. Like anyone who has played the Fall of the Titans the games can testify to this, the Respawn developers have a perfect command of first-person, tight, fast and affordable shooter games. And although it lacks the mechs and the wall that ran that made Fall of the Titans so unique, Mountain peak is always an amazing action experience. You can run and slide on the map with ease, and the guns all have a specific weight and strength to feel good. Even better, while Mountain peak is completely focused on team play, it has features that make it fun, even if you play with strangers.

Apex Legends

Compared to Fortnite, all these elements – gunfire, movement, social characteristics – are improved in Mountain peak. But that's only a fraction of the reason why people actually play Fortnite. The game of Epic is not just a royal battle, it's a social network and, increasingly, it's a virtual place where massive gathering places take place and where people want to explore with their friends almost as much as they want to compete. Often, when I play, winning a match is at the bottom of my list of priorities. I could play a few laps to complete rewards or follow the last event in progress. Today, I entered the island quickly before work, to check the condition of cracks caused by the earthquake. There is so much to do outside the main loop of the Royal Battle. (And that does not even include the Minecraft– like the creative mode, or the limited cycle and constant cycle modes that put you in large teams and allow you to come back to life after death.)

Some of these elements are likely to Apex Legends. The game receives a subscription battle pass, which will likely include daily and weekly activities designed to bring players back. The map may change over time. But above these elements, Fortnite The clearer tone makes it a much more appealing destination, especially for a game you play every week or even every day.

The world has a crazy charm, a colorful sense of style that directly contrasts with the fierce shooters that dominate the space, and that includes Apex Legends. Which does Fortnite more attractive to a wider range of players, and much more suitable for kids and nice for their parents. It also means that Epic has the freedom to come up with fantastic ideas to surprise the players. It's hard to think of another competitive shooter that could fascinate players with a slow rolling cube or a brief blizzard.

All this to say that for all comparisons and similarities, there is a big difference between what Fortnite and Apex Legends offer. Although I prefer to shoot with a shotgun Mountain peakIn the end, I would rather spend more time in the ever-changing world of Epic – if only to watch for butterflies.
