Apex Legends season 8 will include a gold magazine that can automatically reload weapons

Apex Legends’ Season eight is on its way and will feature a surprise addition: Gold Magazines, an accessory that will automatically reload stowed weapons. The description of the season eight gameplay trailer revealed the existence of the next gadget which is set to premiere when the next season launches on February 2.

However, there isn’t much information about Gold Magazine available yet. The official Season Eight page doesn’t mention the accessory and the only recognition for it so far is in the YouTube description of the gameplay trailer. “Look for gold magazines that can automatically reload guns into their holsters,” one reads.

Respawn will likely share more details on Gold Magazine after the gameplay trailer releases tomorrow, possibly updating the Season Eight page to include it. However, based on the scant information we have on this to date, it could be a game-changer – depending on how it works.

The description says it would automatically reload stowed weapons, but the details of its function are still unclear. Weapon chargers are generally based on ammo types (an energy weapon would require an extended energy charger that cannot be attached to snipers, for example). It is not known what types of weapons could use the new accessory. Players may need to scavenge the arena to find a gold magazine that matches their ammo type, if it even exists.

The new accessory could come in handy in firefights and allow players to sustain prolonged fire without having to waste time reloading or repositioning behind the cover to change magazines. It could work the same as Destiny 2The weapon advantage of the autoloading holster, which recharges the weapon after a short period of time.

The new accessory could be potentially fatal on a Devotion LMG. This would negate the weapon’s long reload time and allow players to fire a hail of bullets thanks to its magazine size. This doomsday scenario, however, depends on Gold Magazine’s compatibility with Devotion.

The possibilities of the new magazine also depend on upcoming balance updates and weapon drop changes when Season Eight arrives. Some weapons can become healing packages while others return to ground loot.

There is still a lot of uncertainty around Gold Magazine and how it will work, but Respawn could share more information on that after the gameplay trailer launches at 10am CT tomorrow, January 26th.
