Apollo Crews gets a makeover, WWE pushes young stars to SmackDown

Many of you watching WWE SmackDown may notice that there is a renewed effort to nurture young talent or talent that hasn’t been so lucky before.

Otis had a clear victory over Rey Mysterio in this week’s episode of SmackDown in a tag team match. It was Rey and Dominik Mysterio who lost to Otis and Chad Gable after Otis pinned Rey after hitting his big splash. Otis and Gable turned their heels last week.

Meanwhile, Apollo Crews had time to do an in-ring promo on SmackDown this week. He said he was kind and humble, but he didn’t get the same respect. Crews said he was not “from the neighborhood” or “from the suburbs” but was a true African American. During his promotion he talked about his ancestry and said “this is who I am, this is what I stand for.”

Crews said the colors he wears represent “wealth, dominance and power” and Big E found out about it last week. His promo was cut short by Shinsuke Nakamura, who was scheduled to play a match with Crews. The crews won by pinning Nakamura and it looks like the crews against Big E for the Intercontinental Championship will be booked for WrestleMania.

The others who have been pushed in recent weeks are Nakamura and Cesaro. You can thank Daniel Bryan for this because he’s part of the creative team and he lobbies for more TV time for some wrestlers who have been underutilized over the years.
