Apple Inc. has been ordered to make the most significant change to its App Store business model since the platform’s launch in 2008, and it could cost the tech giant a few billion dollars a year.
In a U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers said on Friday the company must give developers the ability to bypass its commission on in-app purchases – a reduction of up to 30%. This includes allowing iOS apps to use “buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to shopping methods” other than Apple’s payment system.
