Apple in the iOS 14.4 update released today introduced a feature that sends a warning notification when the camera of a Phone 12 model cannot be verified as a new genuine Apple camera.

To go along with this warning, Apple shared a support document that highlights the importance of having an iPhone repaired by a qualified technician using genuine Apple parts, with warnings about what can happen when a camera does not. Apple is used.
Apple says that if an iPhone camera needs to be replaced, it is important to bring in a certified technician, as repairs made by uncertified technicians could result in improper operation or image quality issues. Safety is also an issue, according to Apple, as improper repairs could potentially leave parts loose that could damage the battery.
A non-genuine camera component can cause compatibility or performance issues, with Apple warning of several potential things that could go wrong.
- Camera does not focus correctly or images are not clear
- When using Portrait mode, the subject may not be in focus or only partially in focus
- A third party app that is using the camera may freeze or quit unexpectedly
- Real-time preview in third-party apps may appear blank or get stuck
Non-genuine camera notifications introduced by Apple in iOS 14 will appear on an iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, or 12 mini if any of those devices are repaired with a non-Apple camera component.
If such a repair is done, users will see a warning under Settings> General> About, stating “Unable to verify that ‘iPhone’ has a genuine Apple camera.” The warning will also appear on the lock screen for the first four days after a repair, and in the Settings app for 15 days.
Apple’s warning will not affect the ability to use the iPhone or access the camera, and the iPhone will remain fully functional.
Apple recommends that those who need camera repairs have the iPhone’s camera replaced at an Apple Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or through Apple Mail Support. Independent repair providers are also able to offer genuine camera repair parts for out-of-warranty replacements.
This is not the first time Apple has introduced warnings when repairs are made to an “iPhone” using non-genuine parts. Similar warnings appear when an unverified screen is used for a repair and when a repair center uses a non-genuine batterieiPhone battery.
