Apple celebrates 10th anniversary of Steve Jobs death with tribute on homepage

Apple paid tribute to its late co-founder Steve Jobs on the 10th anniversary of his death with a takeover of the homepage on Tuesday. The presentation includes a video that highlights his vision and staging, as well as a statement from his family.

Jobs died on October 5, 2011, at the age of 56, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Since then the iPhone, Mac and iPad were essential in making Apple one of the most valuable companies in the world.

Apple included a statement from Jobs’ family, speaking about his legacy. “One of our greatest sources of solace has been our association of Steve with beauty,” the statement from his family read. “The sight of something beautiful – a wooded hill, a well-made object – reminds us of his spirit. Even in his years of suffering, he never lost his faith in the beauty of existence.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook, who took over as Successor to Jobs handpicked in August 2011, sent a note to company staff, saying “not a day goes by that I don’t think of” Jobs, and he’s excited about what the company will do next. “Steve once said his proudest accomplishments were those that were yet to come,” Cook wrote in the memo, reported earlier by Bloomberg. “He spent every day imagining a future no one else could see and working tirelessly to bring his vision to life.”

Publicly, he also tweeted the video commemoration of Jobs’ company.

“Passionate people can change the world for the better. – SJ. Hard to believe it’s been 10 years. I celebrate you today and always, ”he wrote.

Jony Ive, who worked closely with Jobs when he was Apple’s design head, posted his thoughts in a commentary to the Wall Street Journal on Monday. In it, he spoke about his family’s closeness to Laurene Powell Jobs and their children. “I loved the way he saw the world,” Ive said of Jobs, “The way he thought about it was deeply beautiful.”
