The highly anticipated Apple event, to be held Monday, is expected to unveil the upcoming television streaming services and subscription to Apple TV. But it's possible that Apple is also talking about its subscription gaming service, reported Bloomberg on Saturday.
The game service, reported by Cheddar in January, would focus on bundling games for its iPhone and iPad and would essentially function as a "Netflix for the game". Bloomberg announced that Apple could discuss the service at its Monday event, but said the company could also wait until June, when it will hold its global developer conference. Citing sources close to the company's plans for service, Bloomberg reported:
The company would collect these monthly fees and then distribute the revenue among the developers based on the time users spent playing their games, said one of the people. Apple is likely considering popular paid titles on the App Store and would exclude free downloadable titles but generating revenue via in-app purchases.
Apple did not immediately return a request for comment on the report.
Cheddar had previously reported that Apple was working on the gambling service, citing five sources who claimed that discussions with developers had started last year. At the time, the question of whether the company was seriously interested in this product was still topical, as Cheddar indicated that it "was still in the early stages of development and that it was still in the early stages of development.
