All eyes are on the next iPhone, but Apple could also work on a new Apple TV. The device could be announced next week, or maybe later this fall.
The anonymous Twitter account @never_released sharing the code name of a new Apple TV – AppleTV11,1 or J305AP. In the past, they have been accurate in finding the code name of various unreleased Apple products.
MacRumors has separately found a reference to AppleTV11,1 in an internal version of the next major release of iOS, iOS 13. @never_released adds that the new Apple TV could integrate a Bionic A12 system on a chip.
The current Apple TV 4K runs on a Fusion A10X system on a chip. This chip was originally designed for the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro released in 2017.
A bump of specs would make a lot of sense, while Apple is about to launch Apple Arcade, its game subscription service that runs on iOS, MacOS and tvOS. For a single monthly plan, you can play games on your iPhone and seamlessly switch to a Mac or Apple TV.
It's unclear if the next Apple TV will have bigger changes. For example, Apple could use this opportunity to update the remote.
Many have also asked for a more affordable Apple TV device. While Apple is about to launch Apple TV +, its streaming service with subscription to original content, the company will likely attempt to make the service accessible to as many people as possible. But the device powered by A12 looks like an update of the Apple TV 4K.
