A year after taking the # 1 position in Fast Business magazine among the "50 Most Innovative Companies in the World" in the world, Apple dropped to 17th place behind established companies and new startups.

Posted on Wednesday, Fast Company The annual list ranks Apple 17th for advanced chip design. A complementary explanation points to the Bionic A12 SoC, which contains 6.9 billion transistors in a single package designed for efficient processing of artificial intelligence, augmented reality and photography tasks.
"Apple's most impressive new product in 2018 was not a phone or tablet, but a chip: the Bionic A12," writes Harry McCracken, chief technology editor at Quick business. "At a time when it is harder than ever to entice consumers to upgrade, as evidenced by Apple's surprise surprise last January to reduce revenue forecasts on sales." With the iPhone losing momentum, the innovative chip design allows the company to create a whole new generation of compelling experiences. "
Released with the iPhone XS last year, the A12 Bionic is built on a 7-nanometer process, enabling an extremely dense six-core design. According to Apple, the two high-performance cores of the A12 are 15% faster than the 2017 A11 Bionic, but consume 40% less energy, while four consume 50% less.
Performance tests confirm Apple's claims, with tests showing performance well above that of some desktop processors.
Above Apple in Fast Company The rankings are established companies such as The Walt Disney Company, National Basketball Association and Target, which are recognized for their activities in the streaming industry, the creation of an esport sports league and creating lucrative home brands. Technology companies like Alibaba, Square, Twitch, Shopify, AnchorFree and Peloton have also ranked ahead of the iPhone maker.
The first and second on the list are Chinese Meituan Dianping and Grab based in Singapore, called "super transactional applications" that connect millions of people through a collection of lifestyle products and services.
Apple took first place last year through an "ambitious" approach to hardware and software engineering. The company's A-series processors were also cited as positive, as were initiatives such as CareKit, Apple Music, and AI.
