Apple HomeKit adaptive lighting begins to roll out for Philips Hue bulbs

Philips Hue bulbs can now adjust their lighting automatically throughout the day when used with HomeKit thanks to an update that adds support for Apple’s new adaptive lighting feature. Dutch publication iCulture was the first to report on the rollout, and we’ve since verified that the update has started rolling out in the Netherlands, but we’re not seeing it in the US yet. This function works with Philips Hue White & Color Ambiance and White Ambiance lamps, which are available in a variety of formats.

Once updated, the Hue app displays a message explaining how adaptive lighting works. “The lights will pick an appropriate color for the right time of day. Dimming your lights will result in a warmer light, ”he says, describing the new HomeKit feature introduced with iOS 14.“ The lights will always revert to that color when the device is turned off and back on. For example, lights may show a warmer color in the morning or a cooler shade around noon.

The rollout of adaptive lighting with Hue bulbs comes after Eve added support for the feature to her light strip.

Adaptive lighting is available with Philips Hue Bridge firmware version 1941132070. To update your hardware, go to the Settings menu in the Hue app, select Software Update, then tap Update when available. Next, launch the Home app where a message should tell you that the feature is available if you have compatible Hue lights.
