Because battery life is probably one of the most important features of a smartphone, we hope that manufacturers will tell the truth about their battery claims. However, the brand name of the Consumers' Association Which? found that Apple and HTC may have overestimated their battery claims.
Starting with Apple, Which? would have tested nine iPhone models and found that these nine models were far from Apple's published battery ratings. For example, Which? found that the iPhone XR lasted 16 hours and 52 minutes of talk time. Apple claims that the iPhone XR lasts "up to 25 hours" of talk time.
As for HTC, the company claims an average talk time of 20.5 hours for its smartphones. However, which one? found that the average was 19.6 hours in his tests.
It was not so bad, as found that Nokia, Samsung and Sony actually under-timed the talk time of their phones. Which? specifically mentions the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, which would have provided 25 hours and 52 minutes of talk time. That's a nine-hour difference from the 17 hours of conversation Sony is asking for the phone.
That said, which one? do not share how he got those results. The brand claims to have fully billed independently purchased phones and then made continuous calls. Which? did not provide any other test parameters, for example if calls were made over Wi-Fi or cellular, if the phones had only stock applications or other applications installed, if the software versions had changed anything and how many tests he had done per device.
It's also a bit strange to see the Xperia Z5 Compact tested since the launch of the phone by Sony in 2015. Who? did not provide the complete list of phones tested in its press release.
When which? asked Apple to comment, the latter said the following:

HTC also responded and published the following statement:
At HTC, we diligently test every aspect of product performance. Differences between the configuration and test environments may cause some variations in the indicated talk time figures.
