Apple is investigating display issues with iPhone 12 models, including flickering and green / gray glow

In an internal document obtained by MacRumors, Apple acknowledged an issue with some iPhone 12 screens showing flickering, green or gray glow, or other unintended lighting variations under certain conditions.

In the document, shared this week with Apple Authorized Service Providers, Apple says it is aware of and investigating customer reports related to this issue. Apple has advised technicians to avoid repairing affected iPhones, at least for now, and instead advise customers that they should keep their iPhones up to date with the latest iOS version. These tips suggest that Apple can be confident that it can fix the issue in a future software update.

A similar green-tinted display issue affected some models of iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and Apple was able to fix it in iOS 13.6.1.

There have been complaints about this new issue in the MacRumors forums and Apple support communities since shortly after the iPhone 12 models launched. The issue can affect the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

According to customer reports, the problem seems to occur when the screen brightness is set to around 90% or less. Many users encounter the problem on iOS 14.1, iOS 14.2, and apparently even the first two beta versions of iOS 14.3. The flicker or shine is not always persistent, going away after a short time for some clients.
