Apple yesterday released iOS 14.2.1 to fix bugs that users have encountered on new iPhones since iOS 14.2 launched on November 5. Unlike many other iOS versions, this version did not come with updates to all of the company’s other operating systems.

The update fixes a bug that caused a lock screen to not respond specifically on the iPhone 12 mini, and it fixed an issue that prevented MMS messages from entering. Additionally, 14.2.1 fixes a sound quality issue on connected hearing aids.

Here are Apple’s release notes for iOS 14.2.1:

iOS 14.2.1 fixes the following issues for your iPhone:

  • Some MMS messages may not be received
  • Made for iPhone hearing aids may have sound quality issues when listening to audio from iPhone
  • IPhone 12 mini lock screen might stop responding

The previous update, iOS 14.2, was a bit bigger. It added over 100 new emoji, integrated Shazam into the control center, and introduced new audio and AirPlay features, among others. This update was accompanied by updates for watchOS, tvOS and others.

Typically, updates with two decimal places in the number are minor bugfix updates, those with a single decimal point are small feature updates, and those with just an integer (like iOS 14) are annual major versions.

iOS 14.2.1 should be available to all users on supported devices (all with the iPhone 12 name) starting now.
