Apple today released the third beta of the upcoming iOS 14.3 and iPadOS 14.3 updates to developers for testing, two weeks after the release of the second beta and one month after the launch of iOS and iPadOS 14.3. iPadOS 14.2.
iOS and iPadOS 14.3 can be downloaded through the Apple Development Center or over the air after installing the appropriate Developer Profile.
The iOS 14.3 update brings the ProRAW format to the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. ProRAW is designed for those who prefer to shoot in RAW but also want to take advantage of data from the Apple image pipeline such as noise reduction and multi-frame exposure settings.
The ProRAW feature can be enabled in the Camera section of the Settings app for those who have the beta of iOS 14.3 installed on a new iPhone 12 Pro or Pro Max. When enabled, there is a RAW toggle in the upper right corner of the camera app that can be tapped to turn it on or off. Photos taken with ProRAW are 25MB in size.
Ecosia, a search engine that plants trees when people search, can now be set as the default search engine on iPhone and iPad.
While not a feature, the iOS 14.3 update hints at some future versions of the product. There is an icon that can reveal the design of AirPods Studio, as well as details about AirTags and the Find My feature which is meant to allow third-party devices to integrate with the Find My app.
The code in iOS 14.3 suggests that Apple is laying the groundwork to add support for third-party item trackers and Bluetooth devices in the Find My app, allowing these devices to be tracked right alongside iPhones and devices. iPads. It is not yet clear which items will support the feature or when the support will be rolled out, but we may hear more information soon.
In iOS 14.3, it’s easier than ever to launch apps with custom icons right from the Home screen, which is ideal for those who prefer to personalize their Home screens.
When you open an app that has a custom icon created using shortcuts, it no longer goes through the Shortcuts app and can instead open much faster. There is still a banner that appears, but it’s a more streamlined experience than before.
