The battle for the supremacy of music continues.
Apple Music now has more subscribers than Spotify in terms of paying subscribers in the United States.
According to the Wall Street newspapera report released in February revealed that in the United States, Apple Music had 28 million paid subscribers, compared to 26 million subscribers at Spotify. However, Spotify still has more subscribers in the world than Apple, which includes US users and free level customers.
In terms of growth rates, Apple Music is higher at both the global and US levels. The report indicates that the company's growth rate is between 2.6% and 3%, compared to 1.5% to 2% for Spotify.
The battle for the supremacy of streaming music becomes more interesting with these numbers. Giving a clearer picture of Apple's desire to dominate the streaming platform business, the company has insisted on offering new "services" aimed at current iPhone users. And that's one of Apple's advantages over Spotify.
With 900 million iPhone owners in the world, the fact that Apple Music is already preinstalled on the device is huge for the tech giant. In addition, telephony operators effectively bundle Apple Music into their contracts, while Spotify's partnerships with Spring Spring and Samsung contribute to the growth rate of the Swedish company.
Last year, Jimmy Iovine, Director of Apple Music, explained how, according to him, music streaming services were too similar and that something had to change.
"Streaming services all cost $ 9.99 and everyone has the same music," he said. "And that's really good. You get the song of your choice, your playlists, but there needs to be more interaction between the artist and the audience.
The record producer and co-founder of Beats seemed to suggest that exclusives could be the way to go, even though the labels wanted you to "have the same music" on streaming sites.
