SAN FRANCISCO: Apple has announced plans to hold a media event on March 25, hinting at a much anticipated project to unveil its own Netflix streaming service with an original video.
An invitation sent to reporters included a video of the countdown of the film reel and the following message: "It's the show's hour".
The event to be held at Apple's headquarters in Silicon Valley is expected to reveal the details of its efforts in the original video and the announced investment of at least a billion dollars.
The iPhone maker is looking to diversify its business and turn more to services as the smartphone market is declining.
According to reports, actresses Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon and the director of "Star Wars" JJ Abrams would join Apple for the event.
It is also believed that Apple is working on a subscription-based information service designed to upset the world of journalism.
In a recent call for results, Cook confirmed that Apple was planning to produce its own broadcasts, which could challenge streaming giants Netflix and Amazon Prime, who have invested heavily in the original content .
"We will be participating in the world of original content," Cook said in discussing Apple's video content projects, including a partnership with Oprah Winfrey.
