Apple reconsiders ban on Mac Amphetamine app due to drug-inspired name

The dispute was over days after the December 29 warning, but it still highlights issues with the App Store guidelines. While the focus on human reviewers reduces the chances of malware and other questionable content creeping through the review process, it also increases the risk of inconsistencies when a reviewer may interpret the rules differently.

This is not as much of a problem on the Mac as it is on the iPhone, as developers can easily offer apps outside of the App Store. Still, a move could have been a big blow. The Mac App Store offers significant visibility, making it all the more difficult to attract new users by channeling them through other channels.
