Apple is rolling out a new firmware update for AirPods Max users. The company doesn’t provide many details on new AirPods Max firmware updates, but this new release brings the on-ear headphones to the 3C39.
Unfortunately, there are no release notes for AirPods Max firmware updates. This update comes, however, as many users are complaining about battery drain issues, with and without the included Smart Case. Some users have also reported connectivity issues when using AirPods Max with a Mac.
As we reported in January, some AirPods Max users report that their battery drains dramatically overnight, even in the Smart Case:
There are more and more reports of an AirPods Max battery draining issue on the Apple Support forums, Reddit, and elsewhere. Some owners report that their headphones’ battery drains 100% to 1% or 0% overnight, even when left in the official Apple case designed to get them into ultra-low power mode quickly. .
Ideally, this new AirPods Max firmware version will help fix these issues, but we’ll have to wait until the update is fully rolled out to users to be sure.
How to update your AirPods Max
Apple doesn’t make it easy to manually update your AirPods with new firmware versions. Instead, the company says new firmware versions will be installed when AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to your iPhone.
To check the firmware version of your AirPods:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Access the “Bluetooth” menu
- Find your AirPods Max in the device list
- Tap the “i” next to them
- Look at the number of “Firmware Version”
Again, the latest AirPods Max firmware version is 3C39. If this is what you see in the Settings app, it means your AirPods Max is fully updated. If not, the update should install after connecting to your iPhone via Bluetooth.
