Apple threatened to remove Facebook from its App Store in 2019 after a BBC report discovered that human traffickers were using the social media site to organize sales of its victims, according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal.
In 2019, the BBC released a report which found that Facebook was being used by human traffickers in the Middle East, who made bogus ads for employment agencies that were a front for trading and selling people enslaved as workers.
Following the BBC article, Apple allegedly threatened to remove Facebook from its App Store, the Journal reported.

The Journal also discovered an internal memo from 2019 which suggests Facebook was aware of the issue prior to the BBC report. A Facebook researcher reportedly wrote: “Was this problem known to Facebook before the BBC investigation and Apple’s escalation?” “, With a response indicating:” Yes.
