Apple surveys 12-inch MacBook users for their opinions on size, features, and more

Apple is sending out surveys to some owners of the now-discontinued 2015 12-inch MacBook asking for their opinions on the laptop’s size, features and more.

Apple announced the 12-inch MacBook in 2015 as an ultralight, slim laptop for customers who need an ultraportable laptop. The 12-inch MacBook featured a fanless design, an Intel processor, and was the first Mac to feature the butterfly keyboard. The laptop started at $ 1,299.

The 12-inch form factor was considerably popular, as customers appreciated its thin and light design. Apple updated the MacBook in 2016 and 2017, but ditched it in 2019 after releasing the redesigned MacBook Air with Retina display.

The survey sent to some 12-inch MacBook customers was pretty generic. These were simple questions asking customers for their opinion on the size of the laptop, its features, and what they would change to it.

Apple periodically sends out surveys to customers, and just last week surveys were sent to current iPad mini customers. Since the 12-inch MacBook has been discontinued, it’s hard to assume Apple will reintroduce it to its lineup.

Although, given the investigation, Apple may be starting to realize the market that exists for ultra-thin and portable laptops and might consider working on a Mac laptop suitable for this demographic. Alternatively, Apple may think there is no need for a 12-inch MacBook given its 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro offerings with an additional Magic Keyboard accessory.

A report from last year suggested that an updated 12-inch MacBook would be one of the first Mac laptops to be announced with an Apple silicon chip. This did not happen and Apple instead updated its “MacBook Air” and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Update: According to MacRumors readers, Apple is also sending out polls on other Macs, including the iMac and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The questions are similar to those asked of the MacBook Pro owner about ports, screen size, etc.
