Apple TV Plus free trial: PS5 owners get six months free

If you didn’t already have a reason to buy a PlayStation 5, Sony has sweetened the deal: for next year, every PS5 owner can get a six-month free trial of Apple TV Plus.

This promotion is available exclusively to PS5 owners – it can only be used through the console dashboard – and requires a PlayStation Network account and Apple ID. Note that the Apple ID in question must have a payment method on file, since the Apple TV Plus subscription will automatically renew after the trial ends, at the regular monthly rate of $ 4.99. Offer expires in one year, July 22, 2022.

The deal isn’t limited to new customers – existing Apple TV Plus subscribers can take advantage of it as well, as long as they don’t subscribe to the service through a bundle like Apple One. The offer is even available to people who already use Apple TV Plus with a free trial.

All in all, this is a pretty shrewd move on Apple’s part. July 1 marked the end of the company’s strategy since September 2019 to offer a free year of Apple TV Plus to people who have purchased an Apple product. This means millions of customers are billed for the first time as of this month.

Despite bragging about critical darlings such as Ted Lasso, Mythic Quest, For All Mankind, and the Oscar nominated film from Cartoon Saloon Wolf walkers, Apple TV Plus offers significantly fewer exclusive shows and movies than competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The logic behind this promotion is pretty clear: offer the service for as long as you can in order to give yourself time to produce enough premium content to attract new subscribers on the sheer force of that appeal.
