Apple has today made slight changes to its eGPU support document. The company has updated this page to reflect the official support offered by the Sonnet Radeon RX 560 eGFX Breakaway, the first officially supported eGPU RX 560.

During the beta period of macOS 10.13.4, Apple stated that the AMD RX 560 processor was supported by macOS eGPUs. However, once the public version was released last March, Apple reviewed the list of supported media to remove the RX 560.
However, with today's changes, the RX 560 is officially supported with the all-in-one Sonnet Radeon RX 560 eGFX Breakaway Puck. Users have already been lucky with the RX 560, but today's update of the Apple webpage offers official confirmation.
Here are the three "all-in-one" eGPU products officially listed by Apple on its support page:
- Blackmagic eGPU and Blackmagic eGPU Pro
- Sonnet separator eGFX Sonnet Radeon RX 570
- Sonnet Radeon RX 560 eGFX Breakaway
The newly added Sonnet Radeon RX 560 is available on Amazon for $ 399.
The RX 560's support, however, is not without compromise. Apple states that third-party viewers connected to the eGPU will encounter problems while playing HDCP-protected content:
Playback of HDCP-protected content from iTunes and some streaming services is not supported on screens connected to eGPUs based on Radeon 560. You can read this content on the Internet. MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac integrated display.
