Apple Watch Manager Kevin Lynch Focuses on Automotive Development

Another executive reshuffle is underway at Apple, according to Insider. Kevin Lynch, one of Apple’s senior vice presidents overseeing health and the Apple Watch, takes on a new role working on Project Titan, Apple’s automotive project.

Lynch has been one of Apple’s most visible leaders at WWDC and the company’s various product unveiling events. He is one of the faces of Apple’s health initiatives and the Apple Watch.

The report does not go into details of what Lynch will do on the car project. Recently, Apple’s automotive product development was led by the company’s chief AI officer, John Giannandrea.

Lynch will not have a title change and his new job is technically not a new role within the company. It is simply a transfer of responsibilities. Additionally, he will still be involved in Apple Watch and Apple’s health initiatives to some extent, although it looks like his exact day-to-day responsibilities within the health team going forward are yet to be determined. . It looks like Evan Doll, the company’s director of healthcare software engineering, will take on at least some of Lynch’s responsibilities on this team.

Apple has gone through a number of leadership changes in recent times. Long-time Global Vice President Marketing Phil Schiller stepped down from most of his responsibilities about a year ago and was replaced by Greg Joswiak. Jony Ive, the main Apple designer of many of the company’s products over the years and a close confidant of late former CEO Steve Jobs, left the company to form his own design firm last year.

Former retail chief Angela Ahrendts left the company in 2019 and her role was taken over by veteran Apple executive Deirdre O’Brien. Hardware director Dan Riccio is said to have left his leadership role at the company to directly oversee Apple’s mixed reality (AR / VR) efforts.

Some of these changes have come as Apple looks to continue the iPhone’s success with satellite products and services that capitalize on that success (including services like Apple Music or wearable devices like Watch and AirPods) or entirely new product categories such as a reality headset mix or self-driving cars.

Insider reports on Apple’s automotive ambitions have generally painted a picture of a project that has seen several stoppages, starts, and leadership struggles. Any Apple car is probably still several years away, but the company has continued to hire new talent from companies like BMW to work there.
