While Apple left a lot of unknowns ahead of Apple Watch Series 7 pre-orders opening this morning, it has now released its usual detailed details on new wearable devices. New tech spec and comparison pages on Apple’s website offer a more in-depth look at the Series 7 and its differences (and similarities) to the Series 6.
Height and weight
First of all, Apple confirmed the size and weight of the Apple Watch Series 7, which was a common question, given the larger size of 41mm / 45mm. Here’s how the weight specs break down by model this year.
41mm:
- Aluminum: 32 grams (instead of 30.5 g)
- Stainless steel: 42.3 grams (was 39.7 g)
- Titanium: 37 grams (instead of 34.6 g)
45 mm:
- Aluminum: 38.8 grams (instead of 36.5 g)
- Stainless steel: 51.5 grams (was 47.1 g)
- Titanium: 45.1 grams (instead of 41.3 g)
As you can see, the Apple Watch Series 7 is slightly heavier than the Series 6 in all configurations and materials. This is not surprising, given the larger screen.
In terms of thickness, the Apple Watch Series 7 is identical to its predecessor, with the new 41mm measuring 10.7mm thick and the 45mm model measuring 10.7mm thick.
Same health sensors
The Apple Watch Series 7 has the same health sensors as its predecessor. Much like the Apple Watch Series 7, the new Series 6 features a blood oxygen sensor, an electrical heart sensor, and third-generation optical sensors.
Reports have indicated that Apple continues to work on new health technologies for the Apple Watch, as well as improvements to existing features, but none of these have manifested in this year’s Series 7.
Durability
Apple claims the Apple Watch Series 7 is more durable than the Series 6 with the “most crack-resistant front crystal” ever used in the Apple Watch. The new 7 series is also IP6X dustproof (unlike the 6 series) and water resistant up to 50 meters (like the 6 series).

- 396 by 484 pixels

44 mm series 6:
- 368 by 448 pixels

41 mm series 7:

- 759 mm² display area
Faster charge
Apple says the Series 7 charges up to 33% faster than the Series 6, and that eight minutes of charging can give you enough battery for eight hours of sleep tracking.
In the box with your Apple Watch Series 7, you will receive a new USB-C charging cable that can charge quickly, but you will need to provide your own charging brick. Apple says its charging statistics are based on tests done with an 18W USB-C charger.

If you think the Apple Watch Series 7 sounds, well, quite similar to the Apple Watch Series 6, you’re not wrong. In fact, Apple’s comprehensive comparison tool for the Apple Watch Series 7 doesn’t even let you directly compare the Series 7 to the Series 6.
